The Principles and Elements.

WHAT IS GRAPHIC DESIGN

·      Design elements are the basic units of a visual image

·      The principles of design govern the relationship of the elements used and organize the composition as a whole

·      All imagery/art are made up of elements that can be broken down and analyzed. This goes for web design as well

Design Elements

·    Space-Space an refer to positive or negative space

·    Line – line is a basic element, can vary in many ways

·    Color- necessary to express emotion and tone

·    Shape- Geometric, natural, abstract

·    Texture- Brings in extra personal style

·    Value-combo of light and dark to crate depth

·    Balance- balance

Design Principles

·    Unity – creates a sense of order

·    Variety  - Keeps things fresh

·    Repetition -  Drills ideas in your head

·    Harmony -  Things fit together naturally and pleasingly

·    Proximity -  Lets you create structure to the information you are trying to present, uses white space.

·    Proportion – shows feelings between two objects

·    Functionality – Function > Form

·    Emphasis -  Design, framing, color pallets, brings attention to something
